Memorabilia

Despite the August heat, I’ve been in the garage this week sifting through boxes and files, throwing away some no-longer-needed items and repacking others. Jan kept just about everything. I found a birthday card that 8-year old David wrote to Jan on her 37th birthday:

Dear Mom, Merry Christmas. I can’t wate till we start class again. All tho it mite be a preshur, I want to lern and finish 2nd grade. truley, I think your the best techer in the whol wide world. By the way, tell me if my speling is wrong, so lets work good on speling this year. Love, David.

In the same pile was another card written by Jan a couple of years earlier on Sept. 7, 1991:

Dear David, I write this on the anniversary of the day that you asked Jesus into your heart, one year ago today at Papa’s house. At that time, even though you were only 5 years old, I noticed a greater desire for obedience, to please us your parents, and to please God. I also noticed a change in your attitude and you had such a desire for others to accept Christ.
You insisted on being baptized, wanting to visualize for others the death of your old self and resurrection to a new life in Christ. We praise God for how you are growing wise in God’s ways and maturing in your relationship to Him. It is our desire that, like David in the Scriptures, that you will be known as a man after God’s own heart.
We love you son, and thank God for blessing us with you. Love, Mom

The printing company will be shipping another 300 copies of Jan’s book on the 10th, so I should have them by the middle of the month. And, yes, I will definitely keep the above cards. Some things are priceless.
