During the History Society’s annual banquet (which Hannah was in charge of), Hannah and two other students received their certificate awards. The time came for the Most Outstanding Student Award. The professor explained that the award is usually given to the student with the highest grade point average. But this year, they had 4 students with perfect 4.0 GPA (including Hannah). But when factoring in other accomplishments, the clear winner was… Hannah Moses! Rarely does one student receive two awards.
During her 4 years at Liberty, Hannah has served as a prayer group leader, English tutor, and as an intern at Poplar Forest (Thomas Jefferson’s summer home). She has worked as a teaching assistant and dorm director. She has also been involved in the Victorian Society, the National Home School Honor Society, and an officer in the National History Honor Society, where she won the Best Paper Award in World History in 2010. In addition to all of this, Hannah has served on mission trips to Japan, Bosnia, as well as here in the Philippines.
After graduation, Hannah’s first activity will be tubing and hiking in the Smokey Mountains with her father and some of her siblings. Beyond that, she has a busy summer leading a tour in Washington D.C., doing some research, finalizing a history paper for a national competition, and preparing for her GRE admissions exam so she can be ready for graduate school next year. Before that, she will live for a while with us in the mission house in Dallas, where she will take a father-supervised home-school course on how to rest and cool off!
Yes, I’m very proud of my daughter. But I was equally proud of her the day she was born and I held her in my hands. I was proud of her when she took her first steps and spoke her first words. As with each of my children, I’m proud of her because she is my child; she doesn’t need to do anything more. I find satisfaction in knowing that the challenges of college life have tested Hannah. And, like gold in the refiners fire, her life and faith have emerged strong and pure. For all my children, I find joy in knowing their names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, as well as forever endeared in the depths of my heart.
