Good News from Sara

Someone out there must have been praying for Sara to find a job. Well, despite a difficult economy, the Lord has blessed her with one – a good one. I’ll explain…

Last year, when Hannah, Martha, Jonathan, and I left for the Philippines, Sara continued to work on her Associates degree in Graphic Communications at Tarrant County College. Because of her excellent grades and good work (and amazing dad, no doubt), one of her teachers recommended Sara for a temporary summer job at Neiman Marcus.

Neiman Marcus is one of the most upscale department stores in the U.S. It’s where I do all my shopping (just kidding!). Every year, they put out a famous Christmas Catalogue of ridiculously priced luxury items. They hire a few extra workers during the summer to work on the pictures, making adjustments so that the images look even better than what they already are. Sara interviewed and got the summer job. After 11 weeks the job ended, but her boss said that they were very pleased with her work and that she was welcomed to come back next summer if she wanted to.

Then the economy crashed. Sara finished her Associates degree in December but couldn’t find a job. She contacted her boss at Neiman Marcus and he said they would be glad to have her back for the summer job. Sara started back in June, arriving at work before 7 a.m. each morning and staying as long as they needed her. She didn’t miss a day. One day her boss told her that she was at the top of the list for a new job that might be opening up.

Neiman Marcus has two divisions: their retail stores and their catalogue/website sales. Their retail stores have been hit hard by the faltering economy; they’ve had to lay off several thousand workers. But their catalogue/website sales have held up pretty well. So much so that they are adding some jobs. One of the jobs is what Sara is already doing, a job that she really likes, using computer graphic programs to layout, improve, and touch-up photographs for their catalogues and website.

So, as of last week, Sara now has a full-time job working at Neiman Marcus’s headquarters in Los Colinas, Irving. She has a really good salary with benefits. Her next step is to begin looking for an apartment close to her job. She’s excited about the thought of setting up her own place, although she will certainly miss Aunt Peggy, who has been so good to help Sara during this transition time.

Thank you for each one who has prayed for Sara, and for all my precious youngins. Martha and Hannah will be returning this Thursday from their mission trip in Tokyo, Japan. Hannah returns to Virginia for college in mid-August. David still has his job, building up his savings. School starts in a couple of weeks for Jonathan and Martha. I can hear Jonathan moaning even now.
