Sara's Birthday

Yep, tomorrow, October 9, Sara will no longer be a teenager. We are planning a simple evening meal with a bigger celebration this weekend. She continues to receive commendations from her teachers for her excellent work in graphic arts.

This past Saturday, the girls and I had a sort of retreat, where we spent the day going over guidelines for courtship. I am grateful that each one has made the commitment to keep their relationship with guys on a casual level until the time they are ready for marriage. After 3 years of watching their peers navigate the turbulant waters of the dating culture, they are quite content to stay away from dating.

They have also committed themselves to practice a form of courtship that requires them, when they are ready for marriage, to send any interested guy to me for "evaluation and approval" before they are free to develop a relationship.

Here are some statements from the material we used:

* Love can always wait to give, but lust can never wait to get.
* Better to be single than to be married to the wrong person.
* Purity is not a line you cross, but the direction of your life toward holiness.
* Only God can fully satisfy our need for acceptance and significance.
* A couple should never marry just because they "love" each other, but they must be able to visualize how they can be of greater benefit to God's kingdom as a couple, rather than as two individuals.
* The one who is most ready for marriage is the one who doesn't need to be married in order to be fulfilled.

Well, we'll see how these commitments hold up, but so far I am very proud of all my children and for their discernment in the area of boy/girl relationships.

Some have asked for our address and e-mail: 5504 Whitman Ave. / Fort Worth, TX 76133. mosesclan@gmail.com May your days be blessed.
