A bit of a buz...

Yea, I finished writing the book. But it still needs to be edited, layed out, sent to the printer, proofread, and sent to the printer again for printing. This means it probably won't be ready for mail out until the first of August. My desire is that it will be a way to keep Jan's testimony alive.

Not much happening on the family side. Jonathan won an award in his school for displaying the character qualities of security and gratefulness. Martha recited several Scripture verses in a drama that was part of our Sunday morning worship last Sunday. Hannah is preparing hard for two AP exams in a couple of weeks that will hopefully earn her some college credit. Sara continues to put out some neat art work as part of her college classes. And David is busy finishing up his college career. He will graduate on May 19. Yep, we'll all be there.

Here's a story from the book you might enjoy. It took place last December...

By now you know that Jan could find humor in just about anything. We often joked about the possibility of Jan getting high on her morphine pain medication. However, because she was careful with the dosage, she never had any side effects, until now.

It was a Thursday evening. Jan had a dinner date with a lady from her Bible study group. But the pastor had requested a drop-by visit with our family that evening to check on how we were doing. Jan figured she could be done with dinner and back home in time for the pastor’s visit.

As dinner was served (she had to take morphine with food) Jan made a quick calculation that she had just enough morphine left in the medicine bottle for one dosage. Without measuring it, she just gulped the remaining medication directly from the bottle, thinking that it sure felt like more than one dosage. It was.

By the time Jan came home, she was happy! Moments later, the pastor arrived. Jan was as giddy as ever. She talked and laughed, which was not unusual for Jan, but I could tell a difference. Jan was feeling good! (Remember, we are missionaries and this was the pastor!)

The pastor stayed for about twenty minutes with Jan dominating the conversation. However, moments before he left, Jan became unusually quiet. As soon as the front door shut, Jan turned a different color, hobbled quickly to the bathroom, and lost her dinner.

Far from being embarrassed, Jan later thought the whole incident made a hilarious story. She even told it to her oncologist, the one who had prescribed the morphine.
